Legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus recorded a special video message for Red Run and its membership as the club prepares to host the prestigious 2025 Women’s Western Amateur Tournament, one of the oldest and most respected events in women’s amateur golf.
In his message, Nicklaus shared his well wishes and offered his best to all the players, staff, and volunteers who will help make this championship possible.
While “The Golden Bear” noted that he hasn’t personally teed it up at Red Run, he made it clear he knows all about its outstanding reputation—and spoke highly of Metro Detroit’s strong golf tradition.
“To all of you at Red Run hosting the Women's Western Amateur, it's a great tournament! I haven't played Red Run myself, but know it's got a great reputation—just like the Detroit area itself with their history of golf. I hope everyone enjoys the tournament, and may the best gal win!”
The Women’s Western Amateur is one of the most historic amateur championships in the country, dating all the way back to 1901. Many of golf’s greatest women—past, present, and future—have tested their game in this championship, and Red Run is ready to add another chapter to that legacy.
Hosting an event of this caliber is an exciting moment not only for Red Run Golf Club but also for the entire Metro Detroit golf community. It’s a chance to showcase a classic course, welcome top amateur players from around the world, and continue to cement Michigan’s place as one of America’s premier golf destinations.
From everyone at Metro Detroit Golfers, congratulations to Red Run Golf Club—we can’t wait to see some of the game’s rising stars tee it up in Royal Oak on July 14-19th 2025.
Stay tuned to Metro Detroit Golfers for more updates on the 2025 Women’s Western Amateur and all things golf in Michigan.
