As one of the premier golf destinations in the country, Boyne Golf continues to set the standard for resort golf—and 2026 is shaping up to be another historic season. In a recent Lesson on Golf segment, Director of Golf Sales and Marketing Ken Griffin called in live from the 9th hole of Crooked Tree Golf Club to share major announcements regarding early course openings, upcoming professional women’s tournaments, and advanced reservation windows.

Doon Brae Opens Early for the Season

Boyne Golf operates 10 championship courses across its Northern Michigan properties. Thanks to warm early-season weather and rapid snowmelt, the resort moved up the official debut of its highly anticipated new short course:

  • Doon Brae: The 9-hole short course and accompanying 27-hole putting area—originally slated for early June—officially opens for play on Friday, May 29th.

  • Full Course Operations: All 10 championship courses are open and operating smoothly, with temperatures holding in the 60s and ideal weather forecast for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend.

  • Booking Access: Golfers can secure tee times for Doon Brae and all resort courses online immediately.

"Really good news, you know, it was set to open in early June, but since it warmed up, the snow has melted off, so Doon Brae is opening next Friday on May 29th,"

Griffin announced live from Crooked Tree.

Hosting the LPGA Epson Tour at The Heather

Boyne Golf continues to build on its national reputation by hosting top-tier professional women's golf. From June 19th through the 21st, the resort will host the LPGA Epson Tour on the iconic Heather course at The Highlands:

  • Award-Winning Event: Last year’s inaugural tournament won the Epson Tour’s Best Inaugural Tournament of the Year award.

  • Elite Competition: Highlights top international talent, including Michigan's own Sarah White driving over 300 yards off the tee, competing for a $250,000 purse.

  • Fan Access & Pro-Am: Spectator passes are available for a $5 charitable donation (offering single-day or full-weekend VIP access), alongside Pro-Am opportunities for amateurs to play alongside tour pros.

This event is part of a major season for women's professional golf in Michigan, which features five total professional women's events across the state this year.

National Recognition and 2027 Reservation Window

Boyne Golf was recently named the #3 Golf Resort in the United States by USA Today (10Best Readers' Choice Awards). Due to surging national demand, the resort has taken the rare step of opening its reservation books far in advance.

  • 2026 Availability: Golfers are urged to lock in remaining 2026 dates without delay.

  • 2027 Advance Bookings: Golfers looking for peak weekend availability and guaranteed best rates can now book their 2027 stay-and-play packages.
