Harbor Shores Resort in Benton Harbor, Michigan, is adding a brand-new short course, and it comes with a big name behind it—World Golf Hall of Famer Colin Montgomerie. The Scottish golf legend is bringing his design expertise to the resort with the creation of The Wee Course, a nine-hole pitch-and-putt layout that will offer a unique, family-friendly experience.
A New Addition to a Premier Golf Destination
Harbor Shores is already well known for its Jack Nicklaus Signature Course, which has hosted multiple KitchenAid Senior PGA Championships. Now, the resort is expanding its offerings with this new short course, which will sit on five acres of land near the first hole of the main course.
The Wee Course will be fully lit for evening play and feature holes of 60 yards or less, each inspired by a hole from the championship Nicklaus layout. Multiple tee boxes will allow golfers to play 18 different shots, adding variety and replay value to the experience.
A Focus on Accessibility and Youth Golf
One of the most exciting aspects of The Wee Course is its commitment to making golf more accessible, especially for kids. Junior golfers will be able to play for free, and the course will emphasize youth programming, helping introduce the next generation to the game.
Funding for the project comes in part from Corewell Health, one of Michigan’s largest nonprofit healthcare organizations, along with contributions from the Fettig Family Foundation.
Jeff Fettig, former chairman and CEO of Whirlpool Corporation, has been instrumental in Harbor Shores' expansion and sees this project as a way to bring more people into the game.
"We've been talking over the last several years about what other amenities we could add," Fettig said. "This project will fit that need. It will be a fun pitch-and-putt course that anybody can play."
Opening Timeline
Construction on The Wee Course is set to begin early this year, with preview play expected in the fall and a full grand opening planned for spring 2026.
