As one of the premier golf destinations in the country, The Majestic at Lake Walden continues to set the standard for resort golf—and 2026 is shaping up to be another strong season. In a recent Lesson on Golf segment, longtime General Manager and Managing Partner Bill Fountain shared updates on course history, early-season operational adjustments, and the holiday demand that continues to elevate The Majestic.

A 27-Hole Destination Getting Ready for the Season

The Majestic at Lake Walden operates 27 championship holes across its expansive property, making it one of the most unique golf networks in the region. Following a stretch of classic Michigan spring weather, temperatures are creeping back to normal, and the property's rich history reveals a highly strategic layout. The history of the distinct 9-hole configurations includes:

  • The First 18 Holes: Opened together on Memorial Day weekend in 1994.

  • The North Nine Opening: The final 9-hole stretch officially opened in August of 1994.

  • A Complete 27-Hole Experience: All three nines opened within three months of each other to complete the layout.

Because of The Majestic's unique layout—where the massive property spans roughly 1,400 acres—early-season conditions and summer transitions require special care. For players opting to mix and match the nines, a unique shuttle cart and a scenic pontoon boat ride across a 150-acre lake are built directly into the operational flow.

Early Season Operational Plans

Rather than rushing to jam the property full without careful management, the resort's strategy relies on careful preparation to ensure optimal course conditions for peak play. While the early-season calendar brings massive tournament outings and heavy league demand, the grounds crew is maintaining a disciplined timeline to accommodate over 700 league players.

"We start booking about two weeks in advance, sometimes we go a little farther out for Father's Day,"

Fountain noted regarding the busy holiday booking calendar.

"We only take foursomes, and you got to pay in advance... and that's been real successful for us, and we'll probably start doing that that first week in June."

The goal is to maintain structured pacing across the facility, protecting the long-term health of the fairways and greens during the most crowded weekends of the summer months ahead.

A Nationally Recognized Golf Destination

The Majestic at Lake Walden continues to earn major recognition well beyond Livingston County. Conveniently situated right off the US-23 and M-59 intersection in Hartland, the course stands as a powerhouse upscale destination for public play in Southeast Michigan.

This type of high-profile regional exposure reinforces what many Michigan golfers already know—The Majestic is a premium Jerry Matthews masterpiece that delivers a classic up-north feel without the long drive.

Built on Experience, Not Just Courses

While the massive footprint of the property is impressive, Fountain emphasized that managing a top-tier public operation comes down to the complete guest experience:

  • On-course golf operations and pristine maintenance across all 27 holes

  • Distinctive routing options utilizing the scenic pontoon shuttle

  • Premium hospitality and dedicated teamwork from a newly trained staff

For visiting golf groups, that means every aspect of a casual round or a massive 200-player tournament outing is handled seamlessly by on-site leadership.

Planning Your Trip

Golfers can explore tee times, special rate packages, and overall availability directly through The Majestic’s official site. Booking fields are open to help players configure their preferred nines, including the fan-favorite stretch from holes 19 through 27.

With the peak summer season officially underway, the parking lots filling up, and holiday dates like Father's Day historically drawing the biggest crowds of the year, early planning is highly recommended for groups looking to secure the best times.
