If you’re looking for a public golf experience in Michigan that feels completely different from anything else in the state, The Majestic at Lake Walden delivers exactly that.
In a recent Lesson on Golf segment, venture partner Bill Fountain broke down what makes this 27-hole facility in Highland, Michigan one of the most memorable rounds you can play.
27 Holes Built on Pure Michigan Terrain
Located just off US-23 and M-59, The Majestic sits on an expansive property shaped by the natural rolling terrain of Livingston County. The course features three distinct nine-hole layouts, giving golfers flexibility while keeping every round fresh.
What sets it apart immediately is the scale:
Over 110 feet of elevation change
Situated across roughly 1,400 acres
No residential development—just uninterrupted golf
Each hole feels like its own environment, with a mix of open landscapes and tree-lined fairways. The layout is intentionally spread out, creating what Fountain describes as “27 different islands” of golf across the property.
A Golf Experience You Won’t Find Anywhere Else
One of the most unique features at The Majestic? You might need a boat ride to continue your round.
Depending on your starting nine, players are transported across a 150-acre lake to reach the next set of holes—turning a standard round into something far more memorable. It’s not just a novelty—it’s part of what defines the identity of the course.
For many golfers, this alone makes The Majestic a must-play.
A Signature Par 3 That Keeps Players Coming Back
Among the standout holes, the elevated par-3 on the back stretch—Hole 25—gets consistent attention.
With dramatic elevation and scenic views, it’s the kind of hole golfers often replay mentally long after the round ends. It also reflects the overall design philosophy of the course: visually striking, challenging, and completely distinct from typical municipal layouts.
Built by Visionaries in Michigan Golf
The Majestic’s development traces back more than three decades, with Fountain and his team transforming a naturally beautiful property into a destination-level golf experience.
The course also connects to a broader Michigan golf legacy through involvement with partners tied to Treetops Resort—one of the state’s most recognized golf destinations.
Early Season Play and Booking Information
The Majestic opened early this season, navigating typical Michigan spring conditions. While online tee time booking may be limited during early-season weather fluctuations, golfers can secure rounds directly through the pro shop.
As conditions stabilize, booking availability is expected to expand online.
