As one of Northern Michigan's premier multi-course resort destinations, Shanty Creek Resort continues to set the standard for championship golf and all-inclusive getaways. In a recent Lesson on Golf segment, Director of Marketing Lindsey Southwell joined host Jeff Lesson to discuss the resort's five distinct golf courses, holiday weekend travel demand, picturesque sunset dining, and full-season lodging options.

A 5-Course Northern Michigan Powerhouse

Spanning across Bellaire and Mancelona in Antrim County, Shanty Creek Resort features 90 holes of golf designed by some of the most celebrated names in golf course architecture:

  • Cedar River: Designed by Tom Weiskopf, featuring dramatic elevation changes, a drivable par 4 along the river, and the signature 18th finishing hole.

  • The Legend: An Arnold Palmer design known for its sweeping layout and iconic views of Lake Bellaire from the 3rd tee.

  • Hawk's Eye: A championship layout with rolling hills and panoramic vistas across the Chain of Lakes region.

  • Schuss Mountain: Known as the resort's most manicured track, benefiting from excellent elevation, natural sandy drainage, and winter snowmelt.

  • Summit: A family-friendly layout that offers great accessibility and scenic views for golfers of all skill levels.

"Schuss is by far our best manicured course, I think,"

Southwell noted during the interview.

"A lot of that has to do with how wet it is, the drainage is really good, and all that snow melting off Schuss Mountain from the wintertime adds a lot of moisture to the ground. That is a groundskeeper's dream over there."

Holiday Weekend Travel & Canadian Value

While some golfers stay local for holiday weekends, Shanty Creek remains an ideal "up-north" getaway destination throughout Memorial Day, Father's Day, and 4th of July weekends:

  • Cross-Border Appeal: Draws heavy participation from Canadian golfers across Ontario, alongside visitors from Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois seeking high-end resort golf value.

  • Father's Day Availability: Tee times and stay-and-play packages remain available for Father's Day weekend, offering an easy escape for golf-loving dads.

  • Spring Conditioning: With cherry blossoms in bloom and full tree canopies out, early-season course conditioning is at peak levels.

Comprehensive Lodging & Sunset Views

Shanty Creek provides a variety of on-property lodging options tailored to groups of all sizes:

  • Lakeview Hotel & Restaurant: Features guest rooms and suites with private jet tubs or kitchenettes, offering panoramic evening sunset views over Lake Bellaire.

  • Summit Village Condominiums: Multi-bedroom options perfect for larger buddy trips, families, and golf groups.

  • The Lodge at Cedar River: Modern suites located directly on the Cedar River course with convenient walk-on access to the 1st tee and 18th green.

Golfers can explore tee times, custom stay-and-play packages, and dining options directly through Shanty Creek’s official site!
