The Rocket Classic is back in Detroit this week, and while the PGA Tour stars are always a big draw, we’re especially excited to cheer on the talented group of seven Michigan natives competing at Detroit Golf Club.

These are players who have walked the same fairways we have, who learned the game in our local communities, and who now get the chance to shine on one of the biggest stages in golf—right here at home.

Here’s a look at the 7 Michiganders teeing it up in this week’s Rocket Classic:

James Piot (Canton, MI)

The 2021 U.S. Amateur Champion and Michigan State standout continues to build his career in professional golf. A product of the Detroit golf scene, Piot knows these Michigan crowds and conditions well. Expect him to have plenty of local support.

Joe Hooks (Detroit, MI)

A fan favorite and local success story, Hooks earned his spot in the field by winning the 2025 JOHN SHIPPEN Invitational. This marks his PGA Tour debut, and it’s fitting that it comes right here in his hometown. Hooks’ journey has inspired many, and this will be a proud moment for the entire Detroit golf community.

Ryan Brehm (Mt. Pleasant, MI)

A longtime PGA Tour pro and Michigan State alum, Brehm is no stranger to competing at the highest level. With a PGA Tour win already under his belt, he’s one of the most experienced Michiganders in the field and someone who can make a run up the leaderboard.

Ashton McCulloch (East Lansing, MI)

A current standout at Michigan State and one of the top amateur players in the country, McCulloch earned an exemption into the field. This is a huge opportunity for the young star to test his game against the best in the world.

Otto Black (Pinckney, MI)

A consistent performer on the Korn Ferry Tour, Black is making the most of his opportunity to compete in a PGA Tour event. He’s a name local golf fans have followed for years and will be fun to watch on the big stage.

Brett White (Grand Rapids, MI)

Another Michigan native with a strong amateur and developmental tour background, White’s perseverance and skill have brought him to this moment. He’s a gritty player who knows how to grind, and he’ll be ready for this challenge.

Benny Cook (Caledonia, MI)

Cook has proven himself with multiple PGA Professional National Championship appearances and strong showings in major events. A former Ferris State golfer, he’s one of the most accomplished PGA Professionals in the country and more than capable of contending.

Whether you're walking the fairways or watching from home, be sure to support these Michigan golfers as they take on the field at the Rocket Mortgage Classic.

For the local golf community, this is more than just a tournament—it’s a celebration of homegrown talent.
