As one of Northern Michigan's premier four-season family golf destinations, Crystal Mountain continues to deliver championship golf paired with a vibrant resort atmosphere. In a recent Lesson on Golf segment, Director of Golf Mark Fenech joined host Jeff Lesson live from the first tee of the Mountain Ridge course to break down strategic tee box alignment, highlight upcoming holiday events, and preview the 2026 Michigan Women’s Open.

Mastering Tee Box Alignment on Mountain Ridge Hole 1

Broadcasting directly from the first tee box of the 430-yard par-4 opening hole on Mountain Ridge, Fenech delivered an on-course lesson on visual alignment and managing your shot shape:

  • Play to Your Shot Shape: Golfers who hit a left-to-right fade should tee up on the right side of the tee box, aiming down the left edge of the fairway to work the ball back toward the center.

  • Avoid the Common Trap: Teeing up on the wrong side forces players to bring boundary trees into play, restricting natural ball flight.

  • Straight Hitters: Align directly in the middle of the markers and swing aggressively with the driver down the heart of the fairway.

"If you have a left-to-right ball flight, you want to come to the right side of the tee box, align yourself up to the left side of the fairway, work your fade, and always keep it in the fairway,"

Fenech demonstrated on the tee.

Memorial Day Weekend: Beer & Brats Festival

In addition to pure golf conditions across both Mountain Ridge and Betsie Valley, Crystal Mountain is hosting its popular annual Beer & Brats Festival over Memorial Day weekend:

  • Live Entertainment: Multiple bands performing throughout Saturday afternoon starting at 3:00 PM.

  • Michigan Craft Brews: Countless local Michigan craft beers alongside specialty brats.

  • VIP Access: Early admission options and VIP packages available online.

Looking Ahead: 2026 Michigan Women's Open

From late June through July 1st and 2nd, Crystal Mountain will once again host the prestigious Michigan Women's Open on the Mountain Ridge course:

  • Elite Field: 132 professional and top amateur women golfers, including rising stars from the Annika Tour and future LPGA contenders.

  • Free Spectator Admission: Spectators can attend the championship rounds and Pro-Am free of charge to walk the course and watch top-tier golf up close.

  • Tempo Mastery: Fenech notes that watching the women pros is the single best way for amateur golfers to learn smooth, balanced swing tempo.
